On the 20th March 2026, we received sad news of the passing of Prof. Adolf Horubała – an outstanding scientist, mentor, and authority in the field of food science. His passing is a great loss to the academic community and to all who had the privilege of working with him.
Professor Horubała made an invaluable contribution to the development of food science, leaving behind a rich scientific legacy and a large circle of students and collaborators.
A special place in his professional activity was held by the Polish Journal of Food and Nutrition Sciences, where served as an Editor-in-Chief since 1957 till 2023, when the quarterly has first been published as Roczniki Chemii i Technologii Żywności and then as Acta Alimentaria Polanica. Prof. Horubała’s dedication and high scientific standards significantly contributed to the internationalization of the journal by expanding its scientific board, attracting international authors, increasing the global scope of published articles, and enhancing the journal’s visibility and indexing in major scientific databases. His vision and determination significantly contributed to enhancing the journal’s prestige and its international recognition. After completing his mission as an Editor-in-Chief, Prof. Horubała still shared his knowledge and experience as a member of Journal’s Advisory Board and Journal’s Honorary Patronage Board.
